나의 작업은 사물과 사건의 ‘이면(裏面)’을 향한다.
보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것이 맞닿는 접면에서, 나는 표면 아래 잠재된 또 다른 층위를 더듬고, 그 경계의 흔들림을 감지하고자 한다.
이와 함께 ‘인간 존재’에 대한 탐구는 작업의 또 다른 축을 이룬다.
설명되기 이전의 감각, 이해되기 이전의 상태로 놓인 이미지들은 인간이 지닌 불완전성과 결핍, 그리고 알 수 없는 불안을 드러낸다.
이러한 감각을 구성하는 핵심 요소는 ‘시간’이다.
시간은 단순히 흐르는 것이 아니라, 기억과 망각, 현실과 환상이 교차하는 층위로 작동하며, 이미지 속에서 단절과 연속을 동시에 드러낸다.
초기에는 물성을 중심으로 사물을 탐구했으나, 점차 작업은 이미지와 시간, 감각의 구조로 이동하였다.
영상, 드로잉, 회화는 서로 다른 방식으로 시간과 존재를 드러내며, 하나의 흐름 속에서 연결된다.
결국 나의 작업은 삶과 죽음, 존재의 불완전성을 사유하는 과정이며,
이면을 향한 시선과 시간의 층위를 통해 존재에 깃든 흔적과 불안을 응시하는 하나의 지속적인 탐색이다.
"Life and death, moment and eternity, fantasy and reality, the original nature of things, beauty, the hidden aspects of things”
Thoughts lead to the other side(裏面) of things.
Interest in objects, which began with the exploration of the properties of materials years ago, unfolds into curiosity about the different aspects or expressions of objects beyond their
material nature, and moreover connecting to the hidden aspects beyond their form, related to its space, situations, and phenomena.
The other side also carries a meaning of 'boundary'. It's like a trace reminding of the boundary between one side and the other. It doesn’t seem to be easily visible, but it’s always
around and implies something beyond the edge of the object.
It’s not exact, but referring to somewhere in the other aspect that can be metaphorically represented. I call it 'similarity' (類似, similar).
Whatever it may be, in a series of aesthetic activities, it’s unavoidable to have an inherent desire and impulse for beauty. To me, beauty isn't just solely based on the sensory
dimension derived from the visual appearance of an object, but rather the idea developed in the process of manifesting narratives about objects held by individuals.
As if fragments of memory or ideals hidden within individual narratives resonating with objects.
From the perspective that beauty arises from situations where personal experiences or emotions related to individuals are encountered with certain objects or phenomena, words
that could describe beauty like 'embellish' or 'decorate' seem less appropriate than ‘indwell’, ‘diffuse’, or ‘draw out’.
Most of the indications when creating a work rely more on intuition or moments of experience than on specific circumstances. Like the immediate response of the olfactory or
tactile sensations when dark, you would prioritize the experience of body reacting first.
Similar to the action evoking a sense of 'deficiency' or 'absence' in the 'leaf' work, the memory of phenomena or situations that evoke synesthetic responses is important. It's
because the unique density of the work is enhanced from the experience of moments where senses take precedence.
Another aspect is time.
Time is an ancient mystery.
Moment, now, persistence, fleetingness, hour, minute, second, present, past, future, eternity...
Detecting the passage of time in a specific situation feels like approaching some mysterious secret that has never been experienced before. Through numerous phenomena, time
knocks on the door of yet another never experienced dimension.
Where time remained, fragments of moments thrive and the chaotic pieces of moments encounter memories or fragments of imagination adding variations to objects or phenomena.
If the gaze seeking the ‘other side’ constitutes the x-axis in the work, time passes through the y-axis.
